New pilot fatigue rules could create pilot jobs
Sweeping changes have been made to the rules governing how much time US commercial pilots must have off between shifts, to ensure that the pilots are in optimum conditions for flying.
The changes were announced by the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Wednesday. They now require pilot jobs to provide at least a 10-hour rest period for workers before a flight duty period – up from the eight hours required by the previous rules.
The Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, said that the changes would also require for commercial pilots to have the opportunity of having eight hours of uninterrupted sleep during the 10-hour resting period. Read more…

When I used to write about the retail sector many years ago there was one major truism — the only people who worked on Thanksgiving were those poor workers who had to help run the Macy’s parade.
