The labour ministry said on Wednesday that the number of registered jobseekers in France had fallen 0.8 percent in March from February, marking the third month of declines. The monthly data does not include an unemployment rate.
French unemployment stood at 9.6 percent at the end of the fourth quarter 2010.
“With the drop in joblessness, other indicators — the creation of temp worker and managerial positions — show that we have started to emerge from the crisis,” Labour Minister Xavier Bertrand told Le Figaro newspaper in an interview due to be published on Saturday.
“My first goal is to move as fast as possible, before the end of the year in any case, to an unemployment rate below 9 percent in mainland France,” he said.
