Current group general counsel, Will Irving. He will be promoted to Telstra Business group managing director on 12 August.

Two Telstra executives will step into new roles later this year, as the telco gears up for the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN).

The move follows the signing of a 35-year contract with NBN Co in June.

Telstra chief executive, David Thodey, said in a statement that current group general counsel, Will Irving, will take up the role of Telstra Business group managing director on 12 August, while company secretary, Carmel Mulhern, will be promoted to the group general counsel on 1 January 2012.

“This will allow Carmel to remain company secretary until the shareholder vote planned for the 18 October annual general meeting and to ensure all NBN-related work is completed, and also provide a smooth transition for the new secretary,” Thodey said.

“To assist this process, general counsel finance and administration, Damien Coleman, will become deputy company secretary on 1 August.”

Mulhern joined Telstra in July 200 and prior to her current role, was general counsel of finance and administration. Coleman joined the company in 1998 and played a key role in the negotiation of the definitive agreements for Telstra’s NBN contract.
