A $3.8 million improvement scheme for airports in Pennsylvania will help sustain and increase the number of aviation jobs in the state.
The funding – which will come from both state and federal sources – will be spent on eight of the state’s airports, and will largely be spent on improving infrastructure at the airports in question, to allow for increased air traffic flow.
In announcing the funding, Pennsylvania governor, Tom Corbett, said that the funding was crucial to help an industry that is integral to the state’s economy.

An aviation career and networking fair being held by AAR Corp in Salina, Kansas next week has already generated heavy interest from the area’s abundant skilled aviation workers.
AAR representatives will be on hand at the fair at Hangar 600, 2720 Arnold Court from 7am to 7pm, to handle hundreds of people who have registered interest in putting themselves forward for the aviation job opportunities that are being scouted for.
Tucky Allen, from the Kansas employment initiative, KansasWorks, said they were expecting to see more than 500 people stop by on Monday and Tuesday during the fair.

This is according to joint research from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and Ashridge Business School, which found that their top three job priorities were carrying out challenging/interesting work, getting high salaries and advancing their careers.
However, almost four graduates in 10 (38%) were not satisfied with their career advancement in their current organisation, while one-third (31%) of managers said that the greatest challenge when working with graduates was managing their expectations.
Research also found that, of the 1,900 graduates surveyed for this report, more than half expected to be promoted to a management role within three years of starting work, with one in 10 believing that they would be appointed to a management position a year into their first job.
This is according to the latest labour market data from the Office for National Statistics, which found that the number of employees and self-employed people forced to work part time instead of full time had increased by 80,000 in the three months to May 2011.
The total number of unemployed people fell by 26,000 over the quarter to reach 2.45 million. The fall was largely attributed to a drop in the number of 16- to 24-year-olds out of work, down 42,000 over the three-month period.
However, the number of economically inactive people aged between 16 and 64 rose by 32,000 over the quarter to reach 9.3 million. This rise was mainly due to an increase in the number of students not active in the labour market, up by 41,000.

Some aircraft engineers working for Qantas are to protest the potential outsourcing of the airline’s maintenance jobs to Asia by just using their left hands to work this week.
The seemingly light-hearted, but very significant protest is the latest piece of industrial action carried out by the Australian flag carrier’s engineers, who are angry at the company’s plans to take the much-needed aviation jobs to Asia.
The left-handed protest will be led by veteran, right-handed union members, Wesley Bell and Vinko Vulin, who work at the company’s Tullamarine maintenance base in Melbourne. Their union has notified Qantas of the action, which is due to commence today, Thursday, July 7. Read more…
